Graduation activities have commenced for trainees under the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Initiative, as Cohort 1 (Batch A) officially concludes the programme across centres nationwide.
Reports obtained by Nigeria Startup News show that while some states have already held their graduation ceremonies, others are still completing theirs, indicating that the close-out phase is being carried out in stages across the country.
A notice shared with trainees from one of the training providers confirmed that certificates and start-up kits are to be given during the graduation ceremonies. The directive asked participants to be present at their centres, marking the end of training and their transition into work or business.
Across several states, trainees posted updates showing organised gatherings at training locations, with participants in safety gear and uniforms to mark the completion of their practical training. In some centres, officials were present to coordinate the graduation process and certification.
However, feedback from participants shows mixed experiences regarding the final stage of the programme. While some confirmed they had completed training and taken part in graduation activities, others raised concerns about unpaid stipends and delays in receiving start-up kits.
“Incomplete, since we only received two months stipend,” one trainee said, reflecting concerns from others still expecting full payment.
Another participant asked, “But where is the starter pack they promised?”, pointing to uncertainty around the support meant to follow the training after Wednesday graduation.
There were also questions about certificates and timelines, with some trainees seeking clarity on when all remaining parts of the programme would be completed.
Despite these issues, the graduation marks the official end of Cohort 1 under the FME TVET Initiative, which was designed to equip young Nigerians with practical skills for employment and entrepreneurship.
Attention is now shifting to Cohort 2, as the next batch of trainees is expected to begin training after completing their enrolment documentation and verification processes.
The Federal Ministry of Education is yet to release a full nationwide update on the completion status, but available information shows that the Cohort 1 programme has largely been concluded, with graduation activities ongoing in different states.
