Fresh Herdsmen Attack Forces Benue Residents To Flee

Residents of Ondo community in Ugboju District of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State fled their homes on Tuesday morning after suspected armed herdsmen launched a fresh attack on the area.

The attackers reportedly invaded the community in the early hours of the day, opening fire and forcing residents to run for safety.

A native of the community and Labour Party House of Assembly candidate for the 2027 elections, Hon. Jimmy Nart, confirmed the attack in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

He wrote, “I just received information from my family that Fulani terrorists are currently attacking Ondo, Ugboju. Protect yourself.”

The latest incident occurred less than 48 hours after suspected armed herdsmen attacked the Otukpo-Nobi community in the same local government area, where more than 18 people were reportedly killed.

The number of casualties from Tuesday’s attack had yet to be independently confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, said the incident had not been reported to the command but promised to make enquiries and provide an update.

Residents said tension remained high in the community, with many families continuing to flee over fears of further attacks.
