Fresh Turmoil Hits NPP’s Afigya Sekyere East Race As Okatakyie Africa And His Boys Clash With Ghana Police

Chaos has erupted at the New Patriotic Party’s Afigya Sekyere East Constituency Executive Elections after Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah and several members of his team were arrested by the Ghana Police Service.

According to reports, the confrontation occurred as Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah attempted to present a court injunction seeking to halt the elections to police officers stationed at the venue. Some members of his team were reportedly assaulted during the ensuing scuffle.

The incident adds to months of internal turmoil surrounding the constituency’s electoral process. A Kumasi High Court had earlier, in June 2026, issued an interim injunction restraining the NPP and its officials from taking further steps regarding the constituency’s Polling Station Executive Album, following a suit filed by a party member alleging irregularities in the compilation of electoral records.

The constituency’s Acting Chairman had separately petitioned NPP regional executives over what he described as unauthorized elections and manipulation of the executive album.

Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, a prominent NPP figure in the constituency who has previously funded nomination forms for hundreds of party delegates, has also had prior run-ins with law enforcement, including a widely publicized arrest in 2025 that drew criticism from within his party.

Neither the Ghana Police Service nor NPP national leadership had issued an official statement on the latest arrests at the time of filing this report.
