The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has approved the promotion of 7,472 personnel, comprising 2,134 officers and 5,338 marshals, in a major career progression exercise aimed at strengthening professionalism and operational effectiveness.
The Corps disclosed this in a statement posted on X on Friday, saying the promotion was designed to reward merit and reinforce its leadership and institutional capacity.
According to the FRSC, the exercise recognises the “dedication, competence, discipline and years of service” of personnel who have distinguished themselves in the discharge of their duties.
“The elevation of the affected personnel is therefore not merely a change in rank, but a renewed call to greater responsibility, higher standards and more impactful service to the Nigerian motoring public,” the Corps said.
The newly promoted personnel are expected to be decorated by Heads of Departments, Corps Officers, Heads of Special Units and Commanding Officers between Wednesday, August 26 and Friday, August 28, 2026.
The FRSC said the decoration would be carried out in line with its Administrative Instruction on the Decoration of Newly Promoted Officers and Marshals.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the promotion as both “a reward and a responsibility”, stressing that the new ranks must translate into improved professionalism, accountability, leadership and service delivery.
According to Mohammed, the strength of the FRSC goes beyond its patrol vehicles, technology and enforcement architecture.
He said it “fundamentally” depends on “the quality, character and commitment of the men and women who stand between road users and the consequences of unsafe road behaviour.”

Mohammed congratulated the promoted personnel and urged them to regard their elevation as a mandate to “do more, lead better and serve with greater distinction.”
He reminded them that every additional stripe, pip or insignia represents increased expectations from the Corps, the Federal Government and the Nigerian people.
The Corps Marshal further said promotion within the FRSC must remain an instrument for building a professional, responsive and performance-driven institution capable of meeting the evolving demands of road safety management in Nigeria.
He charged the newly promoted personnel to demonstrate discipline on and off the road, treat members of the public with dignity and uphold the integrity of the Corps.
The FRSC said the promotion comes as it intensifies operational, technological and public enlightenment interventions aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and improving compliance with traffic regulations nationwide.
It added that a motivated and professionally developed workforce remained central to sustaining its interventions and delivering measurable improvements in road safety outcomes.
The Corps congratulated all the promoted officers and marshals, urging them to approach their new responsibilities with renewed purpose.
It noted that “in the FRSC, rank is not merely worn, it is earned, entrusted and ultimately measured by service.”
