The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS7.1 FCT Sector Command, has secured the conviction and sentencing of a driver, Abubakar Halilu, for multiple road traffic offences in Abuja.
In a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the FRSC said Halilu was arrested on Monday, September 14, at about 11am during a Mobile Court operation at the Life Camp Unit Command, Abuja.
According to the Corps, Halilu was driving a Mitsubishi vehicle when he was apprehended for allegedly committing multiple offences, including dangerous driving, driver’s licence violation, overloading, seatbelt use violation, assault on a Marshal on duty and resisting arrest.
The FRSC said Halilu allegedly assaulted an FRSC Marshal while resisting arrest, after which he was brought before the Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, for prosecution.
Delivering judgment, the Magistrate of the Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 6, His Worship Theresa, convicted Halilu and sentenced him to three weeks’ imprisonment at the Suleja Correctional Centre, with an option of a ₦30,000 fine.

The Corps said the conviction “affirms the rule of law and the importance of respecting lawful traffic enforcement procedures.”
The FRSC reiterated that its personnel are mandated to enforce road safety regulations in the interest of protecting lives and property.
It also warned that it “will not tolerate acts of violence, obstruction or resistance against Marshals carrying out their lawful duties.”
The Corps urged motorists and other road users to comply with traffic regulations, cooperate with enforcement personnel and desist from conduct capable of endangering other road users or obstructing lawful enforcement operations.
The FRSC said it remained committed to promoting safer roads through sustained public education, compliance monitoring and lawful enforcement.
