Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the state’s 2026 appropriation bill into law following its approval by the State House of Assembly.
The 26-member Assembly unanimously passed the bill on Thursday during its resumed sitting in Port Harcourt before transmitting it to the governor for assent.
Fubara subsequently signed the legislation at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
The approval came after a prolonged delay in the consideration of the budget by the lawmakers.
The Assembly said the appropriation would provide the financial framework for the state’s spending until September 2, 2027.
Fubara had on June 25 presented the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) to the legislature as part of the process leading to the preparation and approval of the annual budget.
The passage of the appropriation bill marks the first time the Assembly, under Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has approved a state budget since the Fubara administration began.
The governor’s assent brings the legislative process for the 2026 budget to an end and clears the way for its implementation.
