Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary ahead of the forthcoming election in the state.
Fubara announced his withdrawal in a statement on Tuesday, saying the decision followed extensive consultations with family members, friends and political associates.
The governor said personal ambition must give way to the peace, unity and stability of Rivers State.
He thanked his supporters for their loyalty, sacrifices and commitment throughout the political process, while acknowledging that the decision might disappoint many of them.
According to him, his silence in recent weeks was deliberate and guided by the greater interest of the state.
Fubara also hinted at recent political developments, saying certain issues were best handled quietly to preserve peace and stability.
The governor maintained that his decision to withdraw from the race was not out of fear or weakness, but in the interest of maintaining harmony in the state.
He further appreciated the leadership of the APC and President Bola Tinubu for their support and encouragement.
Fubara urged party members and supporters to remain united and committed to the party ahead of the governorship election.
