A UK-based Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after comparing the cost of petrol in Nigeria with fuel prices in the United Kingdom.
In a now-viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the man expressed surprise at Nigerians protesting over the price of petrol, claiming that fuel currently sells for about ₦1,300 per litre in Nigeria.
According to him, Nigerians are not giving President Bola Tinubu enough praise for the current petrol price.
He contrasted the price with what he described as the cost of fuel in the UK, where he claimed he recently complained about paying £2.09 per litre before the price increased further.
In his words, he said:
“Fuel is ₦1,300 in Nigeria, you people are shouting, protesting. Last two weeks, I was complaining that fuel is £2.09, now it’s £2.10. Una no know wetin God do for una wey dey Nigeria. Instead of you people to be thanking Jagagban (Tinubu). That man dey try for una, he too dey try for una.”
His comments come amid recent increases in petrol prices in Nigeria. Reports published in September 2026 indicate that petrol prices had risen to around ₦1,400 to ₦1,450 per litre in several major cities, including Lagos.
The man’s comparison has generated discussion online, with Nigerians sharing different views on fuel prices and the cost of living in both countries.
