Ogun State has recorded its first international flight arrival at the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, in a development Governor Dapo Abiodun described as a major milestone for the state’s aviation and economic ambitions.
The governor disclosed this in a statement shared on his official X handle, saying the inaugural international arrival brought back more than 300 pilgrims from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, aboard a Flynas aircraft as part of the 2026 Hajj return operation.
Abiodun said the successful landing marked the first international flight to the airport and demonstrated the state’s commitment to expanding infrastructure and positioning Ogun as a destination for investment, commerce and aviation services.
“We are delighted to witness another historic milestone in the development of Ogun State as the first international flight successfully landed at the Gateway International Airport, Iperu,” the governor stated.
He added that the arrival of the pilgrims directly into Ogun State represented an important operational test for the airport and a significant step in its development.
“The Flynas airline conveyed over 300 pilgrims from Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, directly to our state, marking the successful arrival of the 2026 Hajj return flight at the Gateway International Airport,” he said.
Abiodun congratulated the returning pilgrims and commended the agencies, aviation officials and other stakeholders involved in the operation.
“This achievement further underscores our commitment to positioning Ogun State as a leading destination for aviation, commerce, investment, and economic growth,” the governor added.
