General Buratai Commends Security Forces, Hails Tinubu Over Rescue of Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren and Teachers

…Says Successful Operation Shows Nigeria Can Defeat Terrorism Through Intelligence, Coordination and Political Will

Former Chief of Army Staff and former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Rtd.), has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for the successful rescue of the abducted schoolchildren, teachers and school workers in Oyo State, describing the operation as a significant victory in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and kidnapping.

Buratai also congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the political leadership and support that culminated in the successful operation, noting that the rescue demonstrates the growing effectiveness of intelligence-led security operations across the country.

The retired Army Chief said the operation, which secured the release of the victims after nearly two months in captivity sends a strong message that criminal groups can be defeated through professionalism, coordination and sustained military pressure.

“The successful rescue of the abducted pupils, teachers and school staff is a major victory for Nigeria. I congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to national security and commend the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force and every security agency involved for their courage, professionalism and sacrifice,” Buratai said.

According to him, the operation reflects the increasing synergy among Nigeria’s security institutions and reinforces public confidence in the country’s counter-terrorism strategy.
Buratai noted that the rescue should encourage continued investment in intelligence gathering, surveillance technology, personnel welfare and inter-agency collaboration to sustain recent gains against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.

He urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies with credible information, stressing that effective intelligence from local communities remains one of the most potent weapons against criminal networks.
