Ghanaian fishermen have made a startling discovery after encountering a massive dead marine creature floating in coastal waters, prompting debate among observers about whether the animal is a shark or a whale.
The incident, which has since gone viral on social media shows the enormous carcass being brought ashore through visibly discoloured, reddish-brown seawater.
The sheer size of the creature drew immediate comparisons to a whale, with many users online dismissing initial reports that it was a shark.
The video shows one of the fishermen sitting on top of the strange creations. The location of the discovery along Ghana’s coastline has not been officially confirmed at the time of publication.
The discolouration of the sea water visible in the footage raises additional questions about possible environmental factors in the area, though no causal link has been established.
Sightings of large marine animals along Ghana’s Atlantic coastline are rare but not unprecedented. In recent years, fishermen operating in the Gulf of Guinea have occasionally reported encounters with humpback whales, whale sharks, and other large pelagic species.
