GodwinTom has announced his departure as Managing Director of Sony Music Publishing for Nigeria and West Africa after four years in the role.
In a post shared by GodwinTom(@GodwinTom), he reflected on his tenure, saying Sony Music Publishing handed him a “blank page” four years ago and gave him the mandate to build across Nigeria and the wider West African music industry.
He highlighted the expansion of the company’s regional outlook, the creation of the Legends Project, the signing of emerging songwriters and the organisation of what he described as one of the biggest songwriting camps the continent has seen.
Reflecting on his work with songwriters, GodwinTom said, “To the writers who shaped our history and the ones carrying the baton now — working with you has been the honour of my professional life. Thank you for the trust.”

He also thanked Sony Music Publishing for its support, saying, “Thank you, Sony Music Publishing for the mandate and for backing the build.”
GodwinTom further expressed appreciation to the SMP Nigeria team, describing his time working with them as a pleasure.
On his next move, he said, “Other opportunities and announcements in due course. We’ll all just have to wait and see.
He added that he would first take some time off to spend with his family, saying, “But first, a few months of cuddling my wife and my sons.”
