Anthony Gordon has described his transfer to Barcelona as the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition after completing a move from Newcastle United to the Spanish champions.
The England international signed a contract until 2031 after Barcelona agreed a deal worth more than €80 million with Newcastle, ending weeks of speculation surrounding his future.
The 25-year-old was officially unveiled on Friday after completing his medical, with delays in paperwork pushing back his presentation by several hours.
Gordon reveals long-standing Barcelona ambition
Speaking during his unveiling at Spotify Nou Camp, Gordon said joining Barcelona had been a dream since childhood.
“I was excited to play for Barca since I was three years of age,” he said.
The forward also revealed he had spent years learning Spanish because he believed he would one day play for the Catalan giants.
“I wanted to speak Spanish because, as a kid, I believed I would play football for Barca, believe it or not.”
Gordon added: “As soon as I knew Barca were a serious option, there wasn’t any question. Barca are the biggest club on the planet. It is stuff I dreamed about as a child.”
Delay fails to dampen excitement
Although the transfer was agreed earlier in the week, administrative issues delayed his official introduction to supporters.
Despite the wait, Gordon remained confident the move would be completed.
“I knew it would happen. I have been very calm at the hotel with my family and agents,” he said.
“It was stuff above me – legal things and very small details.”
The former Newcastle winger also acknowledged the expectations that come with representing Barcelona.
“I am very conscious of the history of this club and the incredible players who have worn this shirt. I’m ready for this challenge. There is a burning fire in my belly to win here.”
Focus shifts to World Cup duty
Gordon will now turn his attention to international duty with England ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He is scheduled to travel to the United States with the England squad on Monday as preparations continue for the tournament.
At Barcelona, Gordon is expected to link up with fellow England international Marcus Rashford, although the club are yet to activate the option to make Rashford’s loan move from Manchester United permanent.
