Governor Dauda Lawal has assigned Professor Yahaya Zakari as Commissioner for the Ministry of Budget and Planning in Zamfara State.
The appointment came after Prof. Zakari was sworn in earlier on Tuesday as a member of the Zamfara State Executive Council.
Announcing the development, the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, disclosed that Abdulmalik Gajam has been redeployed as the substantive Commissioner for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
Governor Lawal has directed the affected commissioners to resume duty in their respective ministries with immediate effect, further charging them to bring renewed commitment, professionalism and dedication to the effective delivery of government policies and programmes in line with the administration’s Rescue Agenda.
Zakari is a distinguished scholar and administrator with over two decades of experience in academia, policy formulation and public service.
He has served in various leadership capacities within the tertiary education system, including as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of Zamfara State University, Talata Mafara (ZAMSUT).
The Zamfara State House of Assembly, at its 177th sitting held on Thursday, 7 May 2026, screened and confirmed Zakari’s appointment.
