The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Bassey Eno, has commended the Nigerian Air Force for strengthening its operational footprint in the Niger Delta, describing the move as a major boost to security, investor confidence, and economic growth.
Eno made the remarks during an operational visit by the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to Akwa Ibom State, where he assessed the newly established 309 Composite Group in Eket.
The Governor said the establishment and operationalisation of the unit would significantly deter criminal activities, protect critical national infrastructure, and reinforce stability across the state and the wider region.
“The establishment and operationalisation of the 309 Composite Group, Eket, will significantly deter criminality and enhance the protection of critical national assets,” he stated.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining collaboration with the Air Force, stressing that security remains fundamental to economic development.
“The operationalisation of this Unit is a major boost to peace, stability, and economic activities within Akwa Ibom State and the wider Niger Delta region,” Eno added.
The visit featured high-level engagements with stakeholders and a comprehensive inspection of facilities at the forward operating base, highlighting the Air Force’s renewed operational posture aimed at neutralising threats and safeguarding economic assets.
In his remarks, the CAS commended the Akwa Ibom State Government for its support in facilitating the establishment of the unit.
“The establishment of the 309 Composite Group is a strategic step towards strengthening security and safeguarding vital economic assets that are central to Nigeria’s prosperity,” Aneke said.
He added that the Air Force would leverage the platform to enhance intelligence, surveillance, and rapid response operations across the region.
During his visit to Eket, the Air Chief also engaged with the Paramount Ruler, Charles D. Abia, and other community leaders, emphasising the importance of civil-military cooperation.
“Enduring security outcomes are rooted in trust, intelligence-sharing, and community partnership,” he said.
Earlier, the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command, MN Onyebashi, assured that the unit is fully operational and ready to execute assigned missions effectively.
