A civil society organisation, Osun Youth Initiative for Good Governance (OYIGG), has urged the British High Commission and other international partners to ignore Governor Ademola Adeleke’s call for visa bans on opposition figures in Osun State.
The group said the international community should instead investigate the governor and his allies for alleged political violence.
In a statement signed by its National Convener, Dr Adeyemi Akande, in Osogbo on Tuesday, OYIGG accused Adeleke of attempting to deflect blame for political violence he orchestrated by accusing innocent people.
NAIJAONPOINT reports that Adeleke advocated economic sanctions and visa bans on former governor, Gboyega Oyetola, Senator representing Osun East, Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, the lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Oluwole Oke, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, Bola Oyebamiji and others during a visit by the British delegation to the government house.
Adeleke accused the APC chieftains of sponsoring political violence in the state ahead of the August 15 gubernatorial election.
But the group in the statement described Adeleke’s call as laughable.
The statement accused the governor of harbouring suspected criminals in the government house, adding that Adeleke has no moral justification to call for visa bans on law-abiding citizens.
OYIGG said the APC chieftains are law-abiding opposition leaders, prominent politicians, serving lawmakers, and a federal minister known for their service to Osun State.
“Adeleke and his spokesperson are confused and controversial. How can a governor seek economic and visa bans on lawmakers simply because they left one party for another?” the statement asked.

The group accused Adeleke of facing widespread rejection because of what it termed his unpopular style of governance. It warned that it would not allow the governor to use opposition leaders to boost his political standing.
OYIGG called on the British High Commission to place visa bans on Governor Adeleke and several of his associates, including Hon. Ibukun Ishola Fadipe, Hon. Sunday Bisi, Hon. Gani Olaoluwa, Hon. Wale Egbedun, Teslim Igbalaye, Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, and Yeye Dupe Adeleke Sanni.
The group demanded that the British High Commission ban and sanction Adeleke and his alleged co-sponsors of cultism and political violence within two weeks, warning that it would stage protests and submit letters to the commission in Abuja if no action was taken.
OYIGG also challenged the governor to provide evidence linking Oyetola, Senator Fadahunsi, or Honourable Oluwole Oke to cultists or thugs.
Efforts to get the reaction of the spokesperson to the Governor proved abortive at the time of this report.
