The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has been cleared to participate in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary ahead of the 2027 elections.
NewsWatch Nigeria reports that Hamzat appeared before the screening committee on Saturday, 9th May, in Abuja and was cleared to participate in the primaries.
Speaking after the screening, the Lagos governorship aspirants expressed delight at the clearance to move forward.
He also expressed confidence that he is ready to take the next step towards leading Lagos to enviable heights.
Taking to his 𝕏 account to share the update, Hamzat wrote, “Today in Abuja, I appeared before the APC Governorship Screening Committee ahead of our party primaries. I am grateful for the clean bill of approval and clearance to move forward.
“This journey is about service and a commitment to all Lagosians. We have built a solid foundation and now we are ready to take the next step toward a greater and more inclusive Lagos.
“The work continues and I am ready to keep moving forward with you.”
Meanwhile, there is a crack within the leadership of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), a platform for Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
NewsWatch Nigeria understands that rival factions have emerged within the Governors Forum.
According to Arise News, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the forum, Hope Uzodinma, has insisted that he remains in charge of the PGF alongside his deputy, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
However, another bloc within the forum has reportedly aligned behind Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who are now leading a separate faction.
While neither faction has released a statement on the development, sources within the party said tensions had been building over internal leadership control and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
