US President Donald Trump on Sunday said the suspect in the Washington, DC shooting left behind a manifesto that allegedly called for targeting administration officials and contained anti-Christian views.
The statement came a day after the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner venue in Washington, DC, where security agencies quickly responded and took the suspect into custody.
What Trump said about the ‘Manifesto’
Speaking about the suspect, Trump said the recovered writings clearly reflected strong hostility toward Christians.
“He hates Christians,” Trump said, referring to the contents of the manifesto.
He described the accused as a “very troubled guy” and claimed that family members had earlier raised concerns with law enforcement authorities about his behaviour.
According to Trump, the writings also indicated that the suspect may have intended to target officials linked to the administration.
Officials probe
Investigators are currently examining the suspect’s writings, digital devices, and communication records to establish the exact motive behind the attack.
Acting Attorney General officials said the recovered material suggests the suspect was likely aiming at administration officials, though the investigation is still at an early stage.
Officials are also looking into whether the attack had both political and religious motivations.
How the DC shooting incident unfolded
The incident took place at the Washington Hilton, where the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was being held.
Reports said the suspect allegedly attempted to breach the security checkpoint while carrying weapons. During the scuffle, one security officer was injured but survived due to protective gear.
Security personnel immediately overpowered the suspect, preventing further escalation.
Investigation continues
Federal agencies, including the Secret Service and law enforcement officials, are continuing the probe.
Authorities are expected to examine whether there were warning signs before the attack and if earlier alerts from family members were acted upon.
More details are likely to emerge as investigators analyse the recovered manifesto and electronic evidence.
