A 43-year-old British-Nigerian businessman and social media influencer, Igho Ubiribo, has died following complications from a penis enlargement procedure he underwent during a holiday in Thailand with his wife.
Ubiribo reportedly died in March after receiving an injection containing 40 millilitres of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine at a clinic in Bangkok.
Details of his death emerged during an inquest at Inner West London Coroners’ Court, according to reports by the Daily Mail.
He Collapsed After the Procedure
Ubiribo reportedly developed chest pain and lost consciousness twice while receiving a massage with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, after undergoing the procedure.
He was subsequently rushed by ambulance to Sukhumvit Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a pulmonary embolism, a potentially life-threatening condition involving a blood clot blocking blood flow in the lungs.
The businessman reportedly lost consciousness again before doctors could perform a recommended CT scan.
Medical personnel attempted to revive him for more than 100 minutes, but he died in the early hours of March 6.
Postmortem Links Filler to His Death
A postmortem examination carried out in the United Kingdom reportedly found cellular material in Ubiribo’s lungs that matched the hyaluronic acid used during the penile filler procedure.
The finding supported the diagnosis that he suffered a pulmonary embolism following the injection.
Coroner Jean Harkin subsequently concluded that Ubiribo died “as the result of a cosmetic procedure abroad”.
His cause of death was recorded as a pulmonary embolism resulting from the injection of hyaluronic acid into the penis.
Davido Attends His Funeral
Ubiribo, who reportedly had about 185,000 followers on Instagram, was laid to rest in London in May.
His funeral was attended by Nigerian music star Davido and other prominent personalities.
The case has renewed attention around the potential risks associated with penile filler procedures.
Professor Vaibhav Modgil, an NHS andrology specialist and consultant urological surgeon, reportedly warned that complications from such procedures could have devastating consequences for patients.
