‘He Threatened To Kill Me’ – Oyo APC Chieftain Accuses Reps Member Of Assault

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, Gafar Oyebade, has been hospitalised following injuries he allegedly sustained after an attack by a member of the House of Representatives, Olafisoye Akinmoyede.

Oyebade accused the lawmaker, who represents Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, of assaulting him during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the APC State Secretariat in Oke Ado, Ibadan, on Monday.

The APC stalwart said he was invited to the meeting by the party’s State Secretary, Fatai Adesina, to address the lingering crisis surrounding the conduct of the recent local government congress in Lagelu.

According to Oyebade, the peace meeting quickly degenerated into violence.

NewsWatch Nigeria reports that in a statement made available on Monday, Oyebade explained, “Save my soul. I was invited by the State Secretary of APC, Hon. Fatai Adeshina, this morning, April 20, 2026, to the party secretariat.

“On getting there, I met the Hon representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, Hon. Wasiu Olafisoye Akinmoyede, alongside Fatai Awoyoola and Wale Bello.”

Oyebade alleged that tension escalated after he objected to sitting among certain individuals without his political leaders present.

“The Secretary asked me to sit down, saying that the issue of the Lagelu local government congress list shall be settled once and for all. I told him I cannot sit in the middle of these people without my leaders’ presence,” he said.

He further claimed that the situation worsened after they were ushered into the office of the state chairman.

“Then the state chairman summoned us into his office. The meeting became so heated up that he started to beat me in the presence of the state executives,” Oyebade alleged.

“All of them aided the scenario. He even threatened to kill me, saying that I am trying to hijack the party from him.”

The APC chieftain said he was left with injuries from the alleged attack and is currently receiving medical attention.

He added that the incident has been reported to the Oyo State Criminal Investigation Department at Iyaganku, Ibadan.

“The matter has been reported at the Iyaganku State CID. I am currently receiving medical attention,” he said.

However, Akinmoyede denied the allegation, insisting that no assault took place during the meeting.

In a statement issued through his Legislative Aide, Dr. Isiaq Akintunde, the lawmaker maintained that the gathering was peaceful and focused on resolving internal party disagreements.

“No such incident occurred during a meeting convened by the state chairman in his office,” the statement read.

“The gathering was intended to resolve a dispute regarding Mr. Gafar’s official role, as he claimed to be the party secretary despite records indicating he was the Public Relations Officer for the Lagelu Local Government APC.”
