A Circuit Court in Torkor, in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, has sentenced a head porter, Akpalu Prince, to 10 years in prison with hard labour for robbery.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charge, and the court sentenced him based on his own plea.
Chief Inspector McRae Pomevor, the prosecutor, told the court, which was presided over by Joseph Ofosu Behome, that the victim is an officer with the Ghana Immigration Service stationed in Aflao. She lives at Second Low Cost in Aflao, while the accused lived at Garapan, a suburb of Aflao.
The prosecutor said that on July 13, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m., the officer was standing by the roadside at Ave Maria Junction, waiting to board a motorbike. She was holding her iPhone 12, valued at GH¢3,600.
The accused suddenly attacked her, grabbed the phone by force, and tried to run away.
The officer held onto his shirt to stop him from escaping, but he pushed her against a wall and fled.
She shouted for help, and with support from nearby residents, the accused was chased and caught a short distance away.
Police searched him and found the stolen iPhone 12. The complainant identified it as her phone.
The accused was handed over to the police along with the recovered phone, and the complainant officially reported the case.
Chief Inspector Pomevor said the accused admitted to the robbery during police questioning.
After investigations, he was charged and taken to court.
Judge Joseph Ofosu Behome convicted the accused on his guilty plea and sentenced him to 10 years in prison with hard labour.
