How Peter Obi’s ‘Obidients’ tried to kill me – Seun Kuti

By Tolulope Oke

Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has alleged that supporters of Peter Obi, popularly known as Obidients, once made an attempt on his life while he was in police detention.

Speaking in a recent IG Live, the musician claimed the incident occurred during his time at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Lagos.

According to him, he had kept silent about the incident because of the personality allegedly involved.

“I told you the Obidient movement tried to finish me, tried to kill me while I was in there,” he said.

Seun added that the individual allegedly used in the plot is someone widely admired by young Nigerians, which informed his decision not to publicly name the person.

“I never told that story because of who was involved… someone looked up to by so many young people,” he said.

The singer disclosed that activist Omoyele Sowore had encouraged him to speak out, but he declined, insisting he handles conflicts differently.

He further stressed that he would not attack individuals based on their political choices, noting that supporting Obi, Atiku or Tinubu remains a personal decision.

“I will not fight him… just the way I will not fight anybody who tries to follow Atiku or Tinubu, you have just made your political choice,” he added.

Seun, however, hinted that he may confront the individual involved at a later time when, according to him, “Nigeria is restored.”
