Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, says he has fulfilled his pledge to make the University of Ilesa a reality, declaring that the dream of the royal fathers, as well as sons and daughters of Ijesaland, has become a reality through his administration.
The governor spoke on Tuesday at the commissioning of five projects at Unilesa, noting that the institution has, within a short period, taken its rightful place within the Nigerian University system.
The commissioned projects are: remodelled faculty of Law annex building, remodelled faculty of public health building, reconstructed internal road network, new hostel buildings, female medical hostel and faculty of basic clinical sciences building.
Addressing the gathering, Adeleke contrasted his administration’s work with what he called audio pronouncement by the immediate past administration on the establishment of the University.
He said his government enacted the state law establishing the university, provided a framework for its governance, and secured accreditation for several courses.
The governor said, “To our royal fathers and the entire Ijesa sons and daughters, I have fulfilled my pledge to make this University a reality. Your dream, our dream, is a reality that nobody can play politics with.
“From an audio pronouncement by the previous administration, our government enacted a state law establishing the university, providing a framework for its governance. We secured accreditation for several courses.
“I congratulate the Governing Council, the Vice Chancellor and the management of the university. You have demonstrated your managerial and academic capacities. Our baby is growing to become an adult. I am proud of you all.”

The governor listed some of his interventions in the school to include improved staff welfare, appointment of world-class administrators, smooth transition from the defunct Osun State College of Education and conversion of all temporary/contract staff to permanent and pensionable status.
“We paid all outstanding allowances owed by the Management of the defunct College. We approved and implemented new university salary structures, including payment of arrears,” he said.
Adeleke added that his administration has implemented regular promotions with financial backing, adding that approval for the new salary scale for non-teaching staff will follow once the state’s finances improve.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Taiwo Asaolu, said the commissioned projects would directly enhance teaching, research, clinical training, and student life.
The VC lauded Governor Adeleke for his interventions, saying, “Your Excellency, we are profoundly grateful to your administration. In just 3 years, UNILESA has grown from a vision to a thriving academic community of 12 Faculties, 1 College of Health Sciences, 110 academic programmes and over 15,000 students.”
The chairman of the governing council of the institution, Mr Gbenga Onigbogi, said the people of Ijesaland, led by the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, have remained faithful to their promises by providing tangible support to the University.
According to him, some of the key contributions by the Ijesa community
include “the ongoing construction of a
100-capacity students’ hostel by Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, the university gate donated by the Ijesa Elders
Forum, among many others.”
