A Nigerian lady has shared how her friend allegedly blocked her after the latter’s wedding because she refused to send an additional ₦25,000 cash gift despite already spending nearly ₦100,000 in support of the ceremony.
In a viral video shared on TikTok, she revealed that they became friends late last year after meeting at work.
When the bride announced her wedding in Benin City, she explained that travelling would be difficult but still bought the ₦40,000 Aso Ebi and contributed to other wedding expenses.
Recalling the experience, she said:
“I spent about ₦75,000 on her wedding. Before joining the group, I told her I might not be able to travel to Benin, and she said it was fine.”
As the wedding approached, she informed the bride that she could no longer attend because the transport fare to Benin would cost at least ₦50,000.
She claimed the bride then asked her to send the transport fare as a wedding gift instead.
“She said since I wasn’t coming, I should send the transport money as a gift. She even said if I couldn’t send ₦50,000, I should send at least ₦25,000. I told her I didn’t have it,” she added.
According to the lady, the bride later accused some members of the Aso Ebi group of not being genuinely happy for her before blocking her and another lady after the wedding.
The incident has stirred mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians debating whether wedding guests should be expected to give extra cash gifts after already contributing to wedding expenses.
