“I told her I don’t need her anymore…” – Daughter rejects mother who refused Omugwo over poverty

A Nigerian lady has sparked emotional reactions online after sharing her family experience involving her mother’s refusal to support her during childbirth because of her husband’s financial status at the time.

The story was shared by @PH_Socials on X (formerly Twitter), where she narrated years of emotional distance, struggle, and eventual success in her marriage.

Mother Refused Omugwo

According to her, her mother declined to come for “Omugwo” after she gave birth, allegedly because her husband was not as wealthy as her sister’s husband.

She explained that her mother instead chose to stay at her sister’s house, leaving her to rely on her husband’s sister for support after delivery.

Struggles After Childbirth

The woman revealed that shortly after giving birth, her husband lost his job, and the family went through a difficult financial period.

She said they had to survive through small business income and occasional help from friends and relatives.

She noted that despite the hardship, they continued pushing through until her husband eventually learned a trade, secured contracts, and improved their financial situation significantly.

Mother Reaches Out Years Later

After 6 years of no contact, she said her mother recently reached out upon hearing about her second pregnancy and offered to come for Omugwo.

However, she refused, saying she no longer needed her mother’s help. She stated that the same sister-in-law who supported her earlier will take care of her again during childbirth.

In her words: “I called my mother and she refused to come to my house for Omugwo just because my husband is not as rich as my sister’s husband…

My mother told me that she’s not ready to come and do Omugwo when my sister’s husband has a place where she can relax and enjoy AC…

When I called my sister to tell her I have given birth, I cried because my mother didn’t even call me…

Then few months after giving birth, my husband lost his job… we were suffering…

Now my husband is doing well and owns a duplex…

Now my mother is calling me after six years saying she heard I am pregnant and wants to come for Omugwo, but I told her I don’t need her. I told her to go to my sister’s house…”
