“I went there because people said the king sponsors bandits” – VeryDarkMan speaks after chieftaincy honour

Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has explained why he visited the Oba of Iwo in Osun State, who recently honoured him with a chieftaincy title in Iwoland, despite allegations and criticisms surrounding the monarch.

In a video circulating online, VDM said many people had accused the king of sponsoring bandits and jihadists, which prompted him to visit and form his own opinion about the situation.

“People said a lot of things about the king, that he sponsors bandits and jihad. That’s why I went there,” he said.

The activist also joked about forgetting the name of his newly conferred chieftaincy title, revealing that he had to look it up again after people asked him about it.

He added that the honour comes with certain responsibilities and that he is still adjusting to it.

“Now that I’m a king, there are a lot of things I can’t do anymore. They asked me my chieftaincy title today, I’ve forgotten it already. I had to go read it again. I almost said tatashe,” he added.

VDM further stated that he prefers to verify claims personally rather than rely on what people say online before forming conclusions.

His remarks have since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating his explanation and discussing the significance of his chieftaincy title.
