A woman has sparked reactions online after revealing why her husband refused to attend his long-time friend’s wedding, citing a previous incident involving their son’s naming ceremony.
Wedding snub sparks debate on friendship loyalty
The story, shared on social media, detailed how the friendship, which dates back to their university days, recently became strained over what the couple described as a lack of reciprocity.
According to the woman, her husband had maintained the relationship over the years despite certain concerns about the friend’s behaviour.
She added that he even travelled from Lagos to Ogun State to attend the friend’s introduction ceremony last year, demonstrating commitment to the friendship.
However, tensions arose months later when the same friend failed to attend their child’s naming ceremony, despite confirming he would be present.
Couple questions fairness in relationship
“My husband specifically invited him and he said he would come, but on the day of the ceremony, he called to say our place was too far,” she said, expressing disappointment at the excuse.
“He sent ₦10,000, but we both live on the Mainland. After my husband travelled to another state for him, that reason didn’t sit well with us,” she added.
She explained that the situation became more confusing when the friend later added her husband to a wedding planning group, expecting his participation.
Similar issues highlight strained social ties
“A month later, he added my husband to his wedding group. At first, my husband wanted to attend, but then he asked himself why,” she said.
“He eventually decided not to go. If our house was too far for our celebration, then his wedding is also too far,” she added.
