Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has charged personnel of the Imo State Police Command to deepen professionalism, strengthen community engagement and sustain intelligence-led policing to protect lives and property.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the IGP gave the charge on Thursday, September 24, 2026, during an operational visit to the Imo State Police Command Headquarters in Owerri.
Disu was received by the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, alongside the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia, AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, and other senior officers.
During the visit, the IGP received operational briefings on the security situation in Imo State, ongoing crime-fighting operations, achievements recorded, challenges and measures required to strengthen policing effectiveness across the state.
Addressing police personnel and stakeholders, Disu stressed the importance of mutual trust and sustained cooperation between the police and the communities they serve.
He charged officers and men to uphold discipline, integrity and respect for members of the public while improving intelligence gathering, community engagement and prompt response to security concerns.
The IGP reiterated that the police and the community must work together in the collective responsibility of maintaining peace and security.

“Effective policing depends on mutual trust and sustained partnership between the Police and the communities they serve,” Disu said.
He urged personnel to remain professional in the discharge of their duties and strengthen their relationship with communities to improve security outcomes across the state.
Stakeholders at the engagement, including representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee, traditional institutions, the Nigerian Bar Association, civil society and community groups, commended the efforts of the police in maintaining peace.
They also pledged continued support for community-based security initiatives.
As part of the visit, Disu paid a courtesy visit to the Eze Imo, HRM Eze Dr E.C. Okeke, CFR, where discussions focused on peace, security, conflict prevention and the role of traditional institutions in strengthening community partnerships.
The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to professional, intelligence-led and community-focused policing, sustained engagement with critical stakeholders and continuous improvement of operational readiness to ensure the safety and security of communities across the country.
