A factional National Chairman of the Accord Party, Professor Chris Imumolen, has asked Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke to stop referring to individuals facing criminal investigations as members of the party, insisting they are not recognised stakeholders of his faction of the Accord Party.
Imumolen made the remarks in response to claims by the Osun State Government and the Imole Campaign Council that more than 60 Accord Party members were being unlawfully detained by the Nigeria Police Force.
Rejecting the allegation, the factional chairman said those under police investigation should not be described as members of the Accord Party.
“Our members are not criminals. How can people whose names have consistently been associated with alleged murder and other heinous crimes be tagged as our members?” Imumolen said.
He specifically referenced Abiodun Arowomole, also known as “Asipa”, who he described as a murder suspect, questioning why he had been linked to the Accord Party.
Imumolen also criticised the state government for allegedly defending aides arrested with firearms, arguing that such actions were inconsistent with the party’s values.
“Police are arresting your aides with guns, and you are defending them. That is completely contrary to what the Accord Party stands for,” he said.
The factional Accord chairman further alleged that individuals facing criminal charges were being falsely presented as members of the party, describing the development as unacceptable to his faction’s leadership.
He also welcomed a recent Court of Appeal judgment on the party’s leadership, saying it had brought clarity to the leadership dispute and curtailed attempts by what he described as impostors to exploit the party’s platform.
Imumolen reaffirmed his faction’s commitment to peace, justice and the rule of law, urging the Osun State Police Command to prosecute anyone found culpable of disrupting public order, regardless of political affiliation.
The Osun State Government has not publicly responded to the allegations.
