Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has accused the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, of acting out a script written by President Bola Tinubu.
NewsWatch Nigeria reports that Peter Obi made this allegation in a snippet of an interview with News Central Television.
The former Governor of Anambra State also claimed that INEC is President Tinubu’s agent, disclosing that he recently wrote to Amupitan, telling him that he will not be in his position forever.
He said, “If anybody had told me that we could use Professors to run our elections and it would be worse, I would have said a capital no.
“I wrote to the present INEC Chairman and said, ” Remember, you will not be here forever”.
Asked if INEC is an agent of the president, Peter Obi stated, “Yes, completely. Whatever the INEC Chairman is doing today, he is acting the script written by the man who employed him”.
Meanwhile, the promoter of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), Umar Ardo, has said he warned Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, against aligning with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
NewsWatch Nigeria reports that Ardo said the party’s legal troubles remained unresolved despite the reported involvement of the two politicians.
He spoke on Thursday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show.
Ardo said his opposition to the registration of the NDC by the Independent National Electoral Commission predated Obi and Kwankwaso’s reported interest in the party.
He said he publicly opposed the registration shortly after INEC announced it on February 6.
