Iran hands Mojtaba Khamenei’s ‘secret message’ to Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, what does it mean?

Pakistan’s military leadership has reportedly become a key intermediary between Iran and the United States, with Iranian officials using Islamabad to convey a confidential message to Washington amid rising tensions in West Asia.

According to Pakistani security sources, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni met Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi during his recent visit. The nearly 50-minute one-on-one meeting reportedly included the delivery of a private message from Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, along with discussions on possible diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the region.

Focus on regional stability

The talks took place against the backdrop of continuing tensions involving Iran, Israel and the US. During the meeting, both sides reportedly stressed the importance of maintaining peace, security and economic stability in West Asia.

Sources said Iranian leaders praised Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement and recognised its role in encouraging dialogue during recent regional developments. The discussions also explored the possibility of creating a structured mediation process to support long-term de-escalation.

Security cooperation also discussed

Apart from regional diplomacy, Pakistan and Iran reviewed border security and agreed to continue close coordination on issues related to their shared frontier. Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to regular consultations on regional security matters.

Pakistan has maintained that it is ready to serve as a neutral mediator in efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the US. According to the sources, Asim Munir is expected to discuss the Iranian leadership’s message with US officials in the coming days. He is also likely to visit Saudi Arabia and the US as part of wider diplomatic outreach.

During the meeting, Momeni reportedly conveyed that Iran remains willing to engage in dialogue and cooperation but will continue to safeguard its strategic interests and national priorities.
