Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health has confirmed that Israel killed seven people in its strikes on south and east of Lebanon, bringing the day’s total death toll to at least 28 despite a ceasefire and a wider US-Iran agreement.
Five people, including a woman and child, were killed in the east of the country and two Palestinians were killed in the southern Tyr region, said the ministry.
These latest strikes came before a pause noted by an AFP news agency correspondent, when the Israeli army said it had received orders from the country’s political leadership to halt fighting in southern Lebanon.
Casualties climb across major cities
The Israeli army carried out air strikes on the southern Lebanese cities of Nabatieh, Tyre and Sidon from the early hours of the day, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported.
