The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Oluwabusayo Ekundayo, CEO of Orion Surgical and Satures, before Justice A.S. Adepoju of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Gwagwalada, Abuja, on charges of issuing N16.5 million worth of dud cheques.
Ekundayo faces a two-count charge for advance fee fraud and issuing dishonoured cheques.
The charges allege that in 2022, Ekundayo fraudulently obtained N4.65 million and N12 million from Clara Onwumere by issuing cheques that, when presented for payment, were dishonoured due to insufficient funds in his account.
The charge reads: “That you, Oluwabusayo Ekundayo, sometime in 2022 in Abuja, being the CEO of Orion Surgical and Satures, did obtain from Clara Onwumere the sum of N4,650,000.00 (Four Million, Six Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) by means of a cheque which, when presented within three months, was dishonoured on the ground of insufficient funds, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 1(1)(b) of the Dishonoured Cheque (Offences) Act 2004.”
The second charge involves another N12 million, with similar details of a dishonoured cheque.
Ekundayo pleaded not guilty to the charges, prompting the prosecution counsel, Joyce Audu, to request a trial date. The case has now officially entered the court process, with trial proceedings set to continue.
In response, Ekundayo’s defence counsel requested an adjournment to review relevant documents and file a bail application. Justice Adepoju granted the request and adjourned the case to May 8, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application.
