During an appearance on Channels Television on Tuesday, June 30th 2026, Dickson Ireogbu, a House of Representatives aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has alleged that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is apprehensive about the political prospects of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Ireogbu claimed that the Presidency was aware of what he described as the “authentic” outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
“Mr. President, Chief Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief, would have been presented with the authentic result of 2023. I’m sure he would have seen who the true winner is,” he said.
He alleged that this was responsible for what he described as attempts to prevent Obi from contesting in the next presidential election.
The NDC chieftain also dismissed the ongoing legal challenges against his party, insisting that they would not affect its preparations for the 2027 elections.
“Like I said, it’s too late. Anybody coming with litigation to stop the NDC is wasting his or her time,” he said.
Ireogbu further warned against any alleged government involvement in the legal actions, saying such a move would amount to undermining Nigeria’s democratic process.
“If government is directly involved, then it means this government is calling for anarchy because we will not continue to allow this level of political rascality to continue to play out in the polity,” he said.
He urged those behind the court cases to desist from targeting the party.
“They should stop beating up the party and just stop,” Ireogbu added.
