Iyabo Obasanjo, a former Ogun Central senator and daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, has returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), less than a week after announcing her resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
She rejoined the PDP on Monday at an event unveiling the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, in Abeokuta, where she was welcomed with cheers from party members at the secretariat.
Reacting afterwards, Obasanjo, who recently returned from the United States, voiced confidence in the prospects of governorship candidate of PDP, Ladi Adebutu, ahead of 2027.

“I actually have a lot to say; there are many people that we shall call out, but I won’t say anything now until you organise that official welcome back into the party.
“However, I want to greet our deputy governorship candidate. I am convinced that you will be our next deputy governor. I want to thank our incoming governor from 2027, Hon Oladipupo Adebutu, because he has really tried to become the governor of the state for the first, second and third time.
“But this time, God is saying that he will be our next governor now that I am joining the party,” she stated.
Her exit from the APC followed complaints of rejection and poor treatment by the party’s leadership.
In a resignation letter dated May 31 to Ogun APC chairman Chief Yemi Sanusi, she criticised the process that led to Senator Solomon Adeola’s emergence as the party’s consensus governorship candidate, claiming she was not consulted despite earlier assurances that stakeholders would be involved.

She also alleged that some of her supporters were blocked from entering the venue where Adeola’s selection was announced. Despite this, she said she had accepted the outcome at the time, publicly congratulated him and pledged her backing.
She added that Adeola later met with her and promised to look into her supporters’ concerns but never followed up.
Obasanjo said these experiences left her feeling shut out of the party, ultimately prompting her resignation.
She had joined the APC in January, registering as a member in Ward 11, Ibogun, in Ifo Local Government Area.
