Jigawa Govt Gives Tipper Operators N488m Excavators, Conveyor Vehicles

Jigawa State Government has empowered the state chapter of the Tipper Operators Association with excavators and conveyor vehicles worth over N488 million as part of efforts to boost businesses, create jobs and reduce poverty in the state.

Governor Malam Umar Namadi presented the equipment to members of the association and said the initiative was designed to support hardworking residents and help them grow their businesses through direct empowerment.

According to the governor, the state government had earlier introduced similar support programmes for butchers and road transport workers, adding that the repayment level from beneficiaries had been encouraging.

“The returns from previous loans have encouraged us to do more, and this occasion today is another turning point in our quest to promote job creation and poverty eradication,” Namadi said.

He explained that the state government was working closely with the Bank of Industry (BOI) and other financial institutions to improve access to grants and business support for entrepreneurs across Jigawa.

“In this mission, we are collaborating with the Bank of Industry and other financial institutions to facilitate access to grants for every business person, individually or in a group, to enhance their business,” he added.

Speaking during the event, the Manager of the Bank of Industry, Jigawa State branch, Mr Mannir Umar Muhammad, described the state government as one of the bank’s strongest development partners in supporting small, medium and large-scale businesses.

He disclosed that the Jigawa State Government deposited N1 billion with the BOI in 2024 to support enterprises in the state.

According to him, the bank has already disbursed over N1.4 billion in grants to more than 120 businesses across Jigawa.

“We also disbursed over N300 million under our rural micro-business grant, and the programme has positively stimulated the economy and productivity of the beneficiaries,” he said.

The Director-General of the Economic Empowerment Directorate said the initiative aligns with Governor Namadi’s 12-point agenda focused on economic growth, job creation and poverty reduction.

Chairman of the Association of Tipper Operators in Jigawa State, Alhaji Muttala Aliyu, thanked the state government for the support, saying the equipment would improve their operations, increase income and create more opportunities across the tipper transportation value chain.
