Former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has spoken on the reasons he left both the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.
Naijaonpoint reports that the former minister said his exit from both parties was linked to internal control battles and political tension.
Amaechi, who is now seeking the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress, spoke during an interview on Channels Television on Friday.
He explained that his time in both major parties ended after disagreements over how party structures were being run and who controlled them.
According to him, his departure from the PDP came after former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan, took control of the party structure in Rivers State. He said this development made it difficult for him to continue in the party, which eventually led to his exit.
He said: “I was chased out of PDP by former President Goodluck Jonathan and his Wife, they took over the political structure in Rivers State and chased me out. I was also chased out of APC.”
He also said a similar experience played out in the APC. Amaechi noted that after he took part in the party’s presidential primary election against President Bola Tinubu, the situation within the party changed for him.
He said the outcome and what followed made his position in the party uncomfortable, leading to his decision to leave.
Amaechi added that his political journey has been shaped by these experiences across different parties, where internal disagreements over control and leadership direction played a major role in his movement from one platform to another.
