According to a video posted on Trust TV, on Friday June 26, 2026, Senator Ali Ndume, former Senate leader and senator representing Borno South, raised serious questions about the adequacy of welfare provisions for Nigerian soldiers, revealing during an interview on the Daily Politics program that frontline military personnel were until recently surviving on a daily feeding allowance of just 1,500 naira.
Senator Ndume, who served as former chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army, acknowledged that the Tinubu administration had doubled the daily allowance to 3,000 naira, which he described as a step in the right direction.
