According to a report by Vanguard News today being sunday july 5, 2026, a nigerian returnee, Emmanuella Akagbosu has shared her perspective on why many South Africans perceive Nigerians and some other foreign nationals as threats, pointing to a combination of economic hardship, competition for opportunities, and long-standing misconceptions.

Speaking about her experience, Akagbosu explained that tensions between locals and immigrants are often fueled by the belief that foreigners are taking jobs, dominating small businesses, and placing additional pressure on limited public resources.
