The Jigawa State Government has approved the appointment of Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel, following the death of his father, the late Emir Ahmed Muhammad Sani II.

The Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Bala Ibrahim, announced the appointment while briefing journalists in Dutse.

Dr. Lawan Ahmed Muhammad Sani succeeds his father, who died on Thursday, September 3rd, after a 46-year reign.

The new Emir, who was formerly the Chiroman Gumel, also served as Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA.

His appointment follows recommendations by the Gumel Emirate Council kingmakers and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs.

Governor Umar Namadi has congratulated the new Emir, while expressing appreciation to the traditional rulers and kingmakers involved in the selection process.

The new Emir now takes over at a time when traditional institutions continue to play an important role in promoting peace, community development and cooperation between citizens and government.

For the people of Gumel Emirate, the appointment also marks the beginning of a new chapter following the loss of a monarch who spent 46 years on the throne.
