The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports surrounding a list of candidates allegedly representing the party in the upcoming elections in Imo, Abia, and Anambra states.
The party described the list currently circulating across social media platforms as fake, misleading, and completely unauthorised. It warned members and supporters against accepting the documents as genuine.
In a statement released on Friday, the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, said the controversial list did not come from the party’s national leadership and should be ignored by the public.
According to him, the NDC has already completed and submitted the authentic list of candidates for the affected states to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through official procedures in line with electoral guidelines.
“The general public, especially members of the NDC in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states, are hereby urged to disregard the lists of candidates widely circulating on social media as the authentic lists of our party’s candidates from the aforementioned states. The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters,” the statement partly read.
The party said the circulation of the documents appears to be a deliberate attempt to create uncertainty within its ranks and mislead the public ahead of the elections.
Enekweizu accused unnamed individuals of spreading false information to destabilise the party and weaken internal confidence among members in the affected states.
He noted that the leadership of the party is taking the matter seriously and has begun efforts to trace the origin of the fake lists.
“Such lists in circulation are being peddled by mischief makers and those who do not wish the party well. However, the party is investigating the sources of such fabrications and leakages as they are desperate attempts to cause ill will and distractions within the party,” he said.
The NDC further assured party faithful that it remains united and focused despite what it described as efforts to cause internal distractions.
The party reiterated its commitment to strengthening its structure across the country while presenting itself as a credible political alternative for Nigerians.
