Maduabuchukwu John Okeke, one of the Nigerians evacuated from South Africa to Nigeria, has alleged that some police officers in the country routinely extorted foreign nationals despite their having valid travel documents, while also dismissing claims that Nigerians were responsible for taking jobs from South Africans.
Okeke, an indigene of Anambra State, made the remarks in an interview with Channels Television, on Tuesday, 30 June, 2026, after returning to Nigeria following the latest wave of xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals.
