Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2027 election, Omoyele Sowore, has arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja as proceedings in his trial continue.
Sowore, an activist and publisher, was brought to court from the Kuje Correctional Centre, where he is currently being held.
Politics Nigeria recalls that Justice Mohammed Garba Umar on Monday ordered that Sowore be remanded in prison pending the hearing and determination of his application seeking a stay of execution of the court’s order revoking his bail and issuing a bench warrant against him.
Following the ruling, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) took him into custody and subsequently handed him over to prison authorities.
When he arrived at the court on Wednesday, Sowore appeared relaxed and was seen smiling while conversing with members of his legal team.
A number of activists and supporters were also present at the court premises, awaiting further developments in the case.
According to reports, the DSS is prosecuting Sowore over allegations that he made false claims against President Bola Tinubu by describing him as “a criminal” in posts published on his X and Facebook accounts.
