According to a report by Vanguard on Sunday, June 28, 2026, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, has defended the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, over public criticism trailing her advice that Nigerians should consider small-scale ventures such as akara frying and roasted corn selling as a pathway to financial stability.
Mumuni said the remarks had been widely misinterpreted and were never intended to trivialise the country’s economic difficulties or limit the ambitions of women and low-income families. He maintained that the message was centered on promoting self-reliance through accessible forms of entrepreneurship that require little start-up capital.
