The Niger State Government has set up a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the deaths of 37 miners while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
According to the list made available to TVC News on Tuesday, the panel is officially designated as the ‘Commission of Inquiry Into the Deaths of Thirty-Seven (37) Persons Who Died While in the Custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps [NSCDC], Niger State Command’.
The panel is chaired by Hon. Justice Mohammed S. A. Mohammed. The state government appointed eight additional commissioners to serve on the panel: Mohammed Ibrahim Ndamitso E — Commissioner I, Dr Joseph Kolo — Commissioner II, His Worship Hafsat A. Abdullahi — Commissioner III, Prof. Danladi Yunusa Hakimi — Commissioner IV, Abubakar Sadiq Musa — Commissioner V, DCP Habila Daniel — Commissioner VI, Nana Hauwa Isah Esq. — Commissioner VII, Babangida Sani Muji — Commissioner VIII.
The commission’s administrative and legal secretariat includes: Mohammed Aliyu Kutigi Esq. — Secretary, Usman Nuraini Baba Esq. — Lead Counsel, Sarah Nnadufia Gana Esq. — Counsel I, Aminu Alkali Esq. — Counsel II, Hamza Suleiman Mashegu Esq. — Counsel III, Abdulrahman Abubakar Yahaya — Assistant Secretary.
The panel is tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the custody deaths of the 37 miners held by the NSCDC Niger State Command.
TVC News Online reports that the Federal Government inaugurated a 10-member independent committee to investigate the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners who died in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, inaugurated the committee on Tuesday in Abuja following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
