Kano fire service rescues worker trapped in collapsed fence wall

A worker was rescued alive after a fence wall collapsed during a demolition exercise at Kofar Mata Zango in Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State on Sunday.

The Kano State Fire Service disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the agency’s Emergency Response Unit received a distress call at about 8:49 a.m. from a resident, Naziru Ahmad, who reported that a worker had been trapped beneath a collapsed wall.

Firefighters from the service headquarters were immediately deployed to the scene, where they discovered that a residential building measuring about 30 by 20 feet was being demolished when the fence wall gave way.

The victim, identified as Sadiq Ahmad, was trapped while trying to escape the collapsing structure.

The Fire Service said its rescue team swiftly evacuated him alive from the rubble before taking him to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for treatment.

“He was rescued alive and handed over to his brother, Naziru Ahmad, after being taken to the hospital for medical attention,” the statement said.

The agency said investigations into the cause of the collapse were ongoing.

It also urged residents, contractors and construction workers to observe safety regulations during demolition and construction activities to prevent similar incidents.
