KANO — Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has urged the National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to put the interest of Kano people above personal considerations and support ongoing efforts at restoring peace and development in the state.
The governor who made the appeal on Friday during the annual Hawan Nassarawa celebration by the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, stressed the need for unity among political class.
“I am calling on him to look at Kano first, not personal interests, and join the movement for peace and a better Kano,” Yusuf said. “This administration is focused on building a stable and prosperous state for everyone.”
Yusuf noted that recent reconciliation efforts among political leaders in the country should serve as an example for Kano politicians. According to him, many prominent figures attended a recent gathering except Kwankwaso.
“Even governors who had disagreements with their deputies reconciled publicly on that day,” the governor stated. “What Kano needs now is understanding and cooperation.”
Speaking on security and peace, Yusuf defended his administration’s decision to suspend Hawan Daushe, saying the move was taken to prevent violence and protect lives.
“We chose peace over bloodshed,” he said. “If we wanted confrontation, we could have acted differently, but our priority is stability in Kano.”
The governor also declared that his calm disposition should not be mistaken for weakness. “I have never feared anybody in my life,” he said. “My humility is simply part of my character and respect for the people.”
Yusuf praised the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II for his continued guidance and assured residents that the emirate institution would remain protected under his administration.
He further promised that Kano would soon witness a grand Durbar celebration capable of attracting global attention once peace efforts are fully consolidated.
The governor also disclosed that the state government is investing heavily in water supply projects, including the rehabilitation of Tamburawa and Challawa water facilities, to improve access to potable water across Kano.
Yusuf, however, warned some members of his administration against actions capable of creating division within government circles.
“Most of our advisers are doing well, but a few are only interested in causing problems,” he said. “We are watching closely, and appropriate action will be taken at the right time.”
