Nigeria’s electricity transmission operator has announced a planned power outage that will affect five northern states and parts of neighbouring Niger Republic due to scheduled maintenance work on a major transmission line.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said in a statement on Saturday that the outage would result from annual maintenance on the Mando–Kumbotso 330-kilovolt transmission line scheduled for Sunday.

The maintenance will temporarily disrupt electricity supply to customers served by the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) across Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, as well as parts of Bauchi and Yobe states. Some communities in Gazaoua, in southern Niger Republic, will also be affected.
“The outage is necessary to enable TCN’s maintenance crew to amend a damaged Red Phase Conductor on Tower T187 along the line route,” TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah said in the statement.
“Consequently, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) will be unable to off-take electricity to its customers across Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa States, as well as parts of Bauchi and Yobe States; customers in Gazaoua (Niger Republic) would also be affected by the outage,” she added.
According to TCN, the maintenance work is expected to take place between 0900 and 1600 local time.

The company, however, did not specify when electricity supply would be fully restored to the affected areas after the completion of the maintenance exercise.
