The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has submitted his nomination form to the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement posted on Facebook on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa.
According to the statement, Yusuf submitted the form on Thursday in the company of prominent political figures from Kano State.
Naijaonpoint observed that those who accompanied him included former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; Senator Kawu Sumaila; members of the House of Representatives; and other dignitaries.
Dawakin-Tofa said the governor addressed journalists at Treasure Suites shortly after submitting his nomination form.
The governor described his declaration for a second term as a fresh call to service and a renewed commitment to the people of Kano State.
The statement read, “Briefing journalists at Treasure Suites shortly after the submission of his nomination form, Governor Yusuf described the declaration for a second term as a fresh call to service and a renewed commitment to the people of Kano State.
“He said his administration would expand urban renewal projects across the state, while road construction, drainage expansion and market modernisation would receive greater attention.
“Governor Yusuf said rural development would remain a major priority. He pledged more investments in feeder roads, water supply, healthcare centres and schools in rural communities.”
Yusuf also promised to strengthen support for agriculture and empowerment programmes for farmers and young people across the state.
He said job creation and youth development would remain central to his administration’s agenda if re-elected.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to improving education and healthcare delivery in Kano, adding that his government would continue to prioritise unity, peace and inclusive leadership.
He said he would continue to work with stakeholders across political and social divides to move the state forward.
The governor also reaffirmed his alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government.
He said the alignment would help attract more federal projects, investments and opportunities to Kano State.
Yusuf thanked the people of the state for their continued support and confidence in his leadership.
He assured them that his administration would remain committed to transparent governance and people-centred development.
Recall that Yusuf had defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC on January 26, 2026, after resigning from the NNPP days earlier amid an internal crisis in the party.
His defection saw him return to the APC alongside several state and federal lawmakers, as well as local government chairmen.
Following the move, Kano APC stakeholders unanimously endorsed him as the party’s sole governorship candidate.
The stakeholders also purchased and presented him with the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, formalising a consensus arrangement ahead of the party’s primary election.
