Former Deputy Governor of Kano State and immediate past Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, has met with the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, in Abuja, days after being screened as an aspirant for the Kano North Senatorial District seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
SolaceBase reports that the meeting comes against the backdrop of ongoing consensus efforts within the APC in Kano, reportedly encouraged by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, aimed at reducing internal contestation ahead of the 2027 election.
Another aspirant for the Kano North Seat, Dr Mahmoud Baba Bichi, who had earlier signified intention to slug it out in the contest for the Kano North Senatorial District, later withdrew after an intervention by Gov Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Gwarzo disclosed the development in a Facebook post on Tuesday, noting that the visit took place at the Vice President’s residence in Abuja.
According to him, the meeting was attended by former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abba Abubakar Kabir Bichi.

“Today, together with the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency, Abba Abubakar Kabir Bichi, we met with the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency Kashim Shettima,’’ the post read.
“We discussed politics and political affairs in Kano North, and he wished us success and prosperity in our political journey,” Gwarzo wrote.
The Kano North Senatorial seat is presently occupied by Senator Barau Jibrin, the Deputy Senate President, vying for reelection in the 2027 election.
His entry into the race signals a potential contest among key party figures, despite moves by party leaders to adopt a consensus candidate in order to maintain unity within the APC ranks in the state.
Political observers say the outcome of the consensus talks may determine whether the party heads into a primary contest or presents a unified front in the forthcoming election.
